An outdoor wedding ceremony may be held in certain places on National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin under the operations of the following wedding service providers. These wedding providers operate under a Special Use Permit with the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, which authorizes them to conduct wedding ceremonies at specific locations on public land.

Valhalla Tahoe

The Grand Hall at Valhalla is a part of the Heller Estate located at the Tallac Historic Site, approximately three miles north of South Lake Tahoe. Information about weddings at the Grand Hall is available on the Valhalla Tahoe wedding website. Valhalla Tahoe operates under a special use permit with the USDA Forest Service.

Please note: the remainder of the Tallac Historic Site is not available for weddings or private events.

Non-Commercial Gatherings

Forest Service policy allows gatherings that have no commercial component (for example no payment made to wedding planner, officiant, caterer, or photographer), and include fewer than 75 people on Forest Service land without a special use permit.

If payment is going to be made to any party or the gathering includes more than 75 people, a permit would be required. Please contact the Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit office at 530-543-2600 for information on available permits.

Indoor Weddings on National Forest System Lands

With your own Ceremony Official, an indoor wedding may be scheduled at Valhalla by contacting the Tahoe Tallac Association at (530) 541-4975, or by visiting their wedding website at http://valhallatahoe.com/weddings-at-valhalla/. Valhalla is a part of the Heller Estate located at the Tallac Historic Site along Highway 89, approximately three miles north of South Lake Tahoe, California. The Tahoe Tallac Association operates under a Special Use Permit with the Forest Service, Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit, which authorizes them to rent the historic building, Valhalla, for weddings and other private events.

Please note: The grounds area around Valhalla and the entire Tallac Historic Site is not available for outdoor weddings or private events.

Weddings at Resorts on National Forest System Lands

The following resorts operate under a Special Use Permit with the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit and provide wedding services.

Unauthorized Wedding Service Providers

Brides and grooms should be aware that other wedding service providers may misrepresent their legal authority to conduct ceremonies and other wedding services on National Forest System lands. Only those operators listed above have authorization to conduct wedding services at specific locations on public land. If you are aware of wedding service providers offering services on National Forest System lands in the Lake Tahoe Basin without legal authority, please contact the Forest Service office at (530) 543-2600.

Non-Commercial Ceremonies

Weddings may occur on many national forest lands locations within the Lake Tahoe Basin based on national forest policies; including group size limits of less than 75 people, ceremonial officiate(s) cannot collect a fee for providing the service. In addition, national forest lands are open to the public and are on a first come, first serve basis. It is your responsibility to ensure all rules and regulations are followed.
