Tahoe South Gift Wraps the Holidays with Festivals, Lights, Music and Snow
Dec. 3, 2013 (South Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev.) – Hearty helpings of holiday magic, laughter, eclectic concerts, films and snow piled high in the frosty air points to all things Tahoe South (www.TahoeSouth.com) as the right place and time to hear jingle bells ring.
Santa delivers December with fresh snow-capped mountains filled for skiers and boarders, one-horse open sleigh rides through the trees, lake cruises, Christmas decorations, scenic vistas and 24-hour entertainment, dining and gaming. It all adds up to a holiday that rocks around the Christmas trees found only at “America’s Favorite Lake” (USA Today, Aug. 2012).
High-flying adventure flicks and non-stop entertainment arrives with the 12th annual Tahoe Adventure Film Festival (www.laketahoefilmfestival.com) Saturday, Dec. 14 at MontBleu Resort, Casino & Spa (www.montbleuresort.com). Rooted as the nerve center for skiers, boarders, climbers and year-round adventurers, the film festival provides mountaintops, cliffhangers and enough high-energy entertainment between showings to ignite fervor for the New Year. The night includes guest speakers, action photo displays, break-dancers, DJs and a handful of surprises.
The spirit of the season kicks into high gear with Heavenly Holidays, a two-week festival, Dec. 21-31 at Heavenly Village. The event features featuring caroling, live music, ice sculpting, magicians, jugglers, professional ice skaters, live ice sculpting, and a Ripperoo Parade. The celebration reaches its crescendo Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 6 to 9 p.m. with “A Heavenly New Year Celebration” including a concert, fire dancers, ice sculptors, and concluding with a 9 p.m. Gondola Drop. A decorated and illuminated car will descend from the mountaintop accompanied by a community countdown, then a fireworks celebration to welcome 2014. The party continues into the night at one of the many casino nightclubs.
Sierra-at-Tahoe’s (www.sierraattahoe.com/) countdown to Christmas at the Plaza Deck includes a reading of "The Santa Genie," by Children's Author Anita E. Shepherd, live skits and Santa visits, Dec. 21-22. DecemberFest beer and brats tasting at the 360 Smokehouse BBQ is Dec. 23 and Dec. 29-30 beginning at 11 a.m.
Winter Ignite (www.skiheavenly.com) fuels the senses daily at Heavenly Mountain Resort through Dec. 9. The wild week of Après ski parties at Unbuckle, rated No. 1 in North America by Forbes Magazine, features live music, drink and food specials and giveaways at Heavenly's Tamarack Lodge.
For the fifth year, MontBleu hosts the Festival of Trees and Lights, a five-day, family-oriented celebration where Christmas trees, lights and decorations are creatively set against a brilliantly lit backdrop, transforming the MontBleu Showroom into a virtual winter wonderland, Dec. 4-8. The second annual Light Up South Lake Tahoe is a procession led by decorated fire trucks and snowplows along Highway 50 concluding with the lighting of the Christmas Tree at the “Y” (intersection of Highway 50 and 89), Saturday, Dec. 7. The evening also includes a visit by Santa Claus, hot chocolate and cookies all hosted by the City of South Lake Tahoe.
RING IN THE NEW YEAR
The drumbeat to New Year's will deck the halls and stretch the outer limits of music and imagination with the return of SnowGlobe Music Festival, (www.snowglobemusicfestival.com) a three-day dance party at Lake Tahoe Community College, Dec. 29-31. This year's lineup on electronic dance style themed music includes Tiesto, Kaskade, Snoop Dogg (aka Snoop Lion), Zeds Dead, Beats Antique, Cut Copy and Gramatik. SnowGlobe will also feature dynamic fireworks displays and “big air” snowboarding and skiing demos between main stage sets.
PEEK Nightclub at Harrah's Lake Tahoe features Celebrity DJs Rev Run, the frontman of seminal hip-hop group Run-D.M.C., and Rukas Dec. 28. It's New Year's Golden Dreams Party at Peek, Dec. 31, featuring the electro-house duo of DJs From Mars, one of the biggest names in the mash-up scene.
High-spirited New Year's Eve revelry is amplified throughout MontBleu Resort, Casino & Spa with three parties-in-one across venues at Opal Ultra Lounge, BLU nightclub and the 16,000 sq. ft. convention center. MontBleu will spice up the evening with live music, free party favors, champagne, go-go dancers and body painting and live music from San Francisco's number one party band Glam Cobra.
