South Lake Tahoe to Host 2018 Mountain Travel Symposium
March 10, 2015 (SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev.) South Lake Tahoe has been selected as the destination for the 2018 Mountain Travel Symposium hosting the largest gathering of alpine travel and tour professionals, ski clubs, lodging and property management companies in North America for first time. The annual Mountain Travel Symposium will be held April 14-18, 2018, and is the industry’s most attended marketplace for contracting and networking. Officials estimate more than 1,300 travel/tourism leaders, ski club officials and wholesalers to attend bringing a potential of $10-15 million in future contract business. (www.mtntrvl.com.)
Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority will host the symposium, in conjunction with Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel and MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa.
“We’re constantly looking at new opportunities to share the beauty and attractions of South Lake Tahoe and hosting Mountain Travel Symposium will also highlight the ongoing renaissance throughout the community,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority.
The Symposium is the premier pipeline for specialists to discuss, negotiate and write business contracts for lift tickets, lodging, airline seats, rental cars and ski and snowboard rental equipment. In 2012, the MTS was held at Squaw Valley.
While the MTS is designed exclusively around the entire North American mountain resort and recreation industry, it does provides South Shore an opportunity to introduce industry leaders and representatives to the $200 million public-private revitalization at South Shore in recent years, with new lodging developments, restaurants and shopping, pedestrian walkways, bike paths, park improvements and four-season offerings at area ski resorts. By 2018, there’s opportunity for the South Lake Tahoe to add $100 million more in enhancements.
