South Lake Tahoe Nonprofits Received $51,984 from American Century Championship Donations
Nov. 10, 2016 (SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. / Nev.) – The 2016 American Century Championship “Can’t Stop the Feeling” of giving and (www.americancenturychampionship.com) continues to support area nonprofits as the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (http://www.TahoeSouth.com) distributed $51,984 among 20 organizations through funds raised during the annual celebrity golf tournament.
The announcement and check presentations were made at the organization’s Nov. 10 board meeting. The tournament also provided $62,000 through on-site volunteer organizations and other efforts during the event to area high schools, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe Booster Club, Tahoe Fund and the Gene Upshaw Scholarship. In total, tournament partners committed $113,984 to Tahoe South nonprofits, agencies and schools as a result of the July event.
“The funding allows us to assist with a variety of efforts in our community affiliated with cancer, children as well as educational, civic, and recreational initiatives,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “The long-standing partnership with American Century and NBC Sports offers more ways to give back.”
Grants ranging from $500- $5,500 were distributed to Assistance League of Sierra Foothills, Barton Foundation, BATS Bringing Art to Schools, Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Dorado County, Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe, Christmas Cheer All Year, Kahle Community Center, Kelly Ridge, Kiwanis Community Organization Inc. (Coats for Kids), Lake Tahoe Educational Fund, Live Violence Free, Saint Joseph Community Land Trust, South Lake Tahoe Cancer League, Suicide Prevention Network, Tahoe Arts Project, Tahoe Magic, Tahoe Regional Young Professionals, Tahoe Senior Plaza, Tahoe Turning Point and Tahoe Youth & Family Services.
To be considered, local organizations had to meet 501(c)3 certified nonprofit guidelines, provide an outline of their mission, describe how the donation would be used and indicate impact in the community.
From 2009, donations exceeding $800,000 have been distributed to more than 80 local nonprofits to assist 10,500+ individuals.
Since its inception in 1990, the tournament has donated more than $4.5 million to local and national non-profits. The nation’s longest running celebrity golf tournament captured the media spotlight with crowd favorites Justin Timberlake and Stephen Curry in the field of famed sports stars, legends and celebrity competitors leading to record attendance of 47,109. Returning stars included Charles Barkley, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Larry the Cable Guy, and Hall of Famers and All-Stars representing major sports.
