Tahoe South Press Releases
Operation Sierra Storm Generates $2 Million in Media Exposure for Tahoe South
Operation Sierra Storm, the annual TV meteorologists conference, generated Tahoe South 48 broadcast stories valued at $2 million in media exposure with a potential reach of 45 million national viewers. The live and taped coverage reinforced winter conditions, a quality skiing experience despite Mother Nature, climate change trends, and Tahoe’s Olympic connection.
In its 16th year, OSS (www.osstahoe.com) continued to provide media attendees with topical and newsworthy story ideas, compelling speakers, ongoing education, networking, and opportunities to provide viewers with live and/or taped broadcasts from South Shore and Heavenly Mountain Resort (host ski resort). Attendees included 17 television meteorologists representing The Weather Channel, San Diego, Chicago, Dallas, Boston, Las Vegas, Sacramento, Salinas, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Monterey and Reno markets.
Speakers addressed issues of climate change and spoke of individual, national and international responsibility when it comes to climate and environmental protections. Dr. William Collins, an internationally recognized climate change scientist and a lead author of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change who was awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize, was the keynote speaker. His presentation was open to the public at Harrah’s. (It can be viewed at http://ltva.org.)
Presentations also included Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Baron Services, California Air Resources Board, and Desert Research Institute. OSS reinforced Tahoe South reputation as the country’s “Best Ski Destination” (USA Today, Jan. 2014) and as a national environmental leader. Snowmaking technology was a popular topic to reiterate the destination winter product, top to bottom skiing and positive visitor experience.
Event sponsors included the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, Tahoe Douglas Visitors Authority, Nevada Commission on Tourism, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Harveys Lake Tahoe, MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Edgewood Tahoe, The Landing Resort & Spa, South Tahoe Express, the National Weather Service in Reno, and Sierra-at-Tahoe.
