Tahoe South Press Releases
Lake Tahoe in the Running for Virtual Tourist’s 8th Wonder of the World
(South Lake Tahoe, Calif./Nev.) July 19, 2013 – Lake Tahoe has already been recognized as the “Best lake in America” (USA TODAY, August 10, 2012) and now Tahoe South has entered Lake Tahoe into VirtualTourist.com’s quest to crown the “8th Wonder of the World.” Public voting is now open through September 30 at VirtualTourist.com, a leading travel research website and community that is part of TripAdvisor Media Group.
Lake Tahoe is recognized for its timeless beauty and an international reputation as an outdoor recreational Mecca. The combination of great outdoors, entertainment, nightlife, dining and gaming identify its unique character.
"The Sierra mountains around Lake Tahoe clinch the deal," wrote Dick Goodrick, a former Michigander who now lives in Dayton, Nevada. "Year round recreation, skiing, hiking, casinos, mountain bike riding, fishing, wake boarding, sailing on big boats, paddle wheel dinner/cruise boats, clear deep blue water, spawning salmon, zip lining, historic homes to visit, and much more. No lake can match it."
Other Lake Tahoe awards include top rankings from TripAdvisor, Orbitz.com and Rand McNally as the No. 1 ski destination in the U.S.; and numerous designations from Forbes.com, MSNBC, SKI Magazine, Skiing Magazine, Transworld Snowboarding for diverse categories such as snow quality, scenery, après, off-hill activities, and terrain parks for Heavenly Mountain Resort, Sierra-at-Tahoe and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.
With over 350 nominations, the public is asked to vote for their favorite submissions. Voters can visit www.virtualtourist.com to vote for a landmark (once per day). The wonder with the most votes will be crowned the winner. The winner will be featured in a national broadcast TV segment on a popular syndicated program as well as receive a significant media relations campaign push from VirtualTourist.
