Feb. 24, 2015 (LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev.) – The Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race at Lake Tahoe is seeking cycling aficionados to volunteer during the two stages, May 8-9.
The two Lake Tahoe stages cover a total of 124 miles with the first on Friday, May 8, circumnavigating the Lake; the second is two-laps through South Lake Tahoe and Meyers, Calif., the town seven miles west of South Shore on Saturday, May 9. The third and final stage is in Sacramento, May 10. The start and finish line for both Tahoe stages are located at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Main Lodge, and the headquarter hotel is Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, which is located near the Heavenly Village/Stateline casinos. Volunteer registration is now open and positions consist of a course marshal – a critical role where the individual assists race staff and local law enforcement authorities along the route. Other jobs involve media support, security, check-in, monitoring pedestrian traffic, surveying barricades, road closures, and communications -- keeping spectators informed as the race progresses while collaborating with the cyclists and their teams.
The South Lake Tahoe Local Organizing Committee are seeking 300 volunteers for the first stage and 200 – 250 for the second. Four to six hours are anticipated each day.
Those interested in assisting the Tahoe South portion of the tour can register at www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/Tour/volunteer. Registrants must be at least 18 years old, or accompanied by an adult. Interested applicants can contact Mike Frye with the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority at firstname.lastname@example.org or 775-588-5900 x 309.
Thousands of volunteers across the state will join forces with race staff May 8-17 to support the international sporting event where the world’s top cyclists compete in front of millions of fans, as well as a global television audience. In all, the men’s and women’s races will travel through 14 host cities for official stage starts and finishes.
