Celebrating 26 years as the No. 1 celebrity golf tournament in the U.S., the American Century Championship returns to Tahoe South July 14-19 with a star-studded line-up of sports and entertainment celebrities including the likes of Charles Barkley, Aaron Rogers, John Elway, Larry the Cable Guy, Ray Romano, and dozens of NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL Hall of Famers. www.tahoecelebritygolf.com
When it comes to fireworks, Tahoe South has one of the biggest and best July 4 displays in the nation. Lights on the Lake packs the shoreline in what NBC’s Today Show has called one of the best displays in the country. Choice viewing spots are South Shore’s sandy beaches and aboard boats including the M.S. Dixie II and Tahoe Queen paddlewheelers or private vessels. The display features simultaneous music set to skyrockets on local radio stations KRLT-FM 93.9 and KOWL-AM 1490. In September, Labor Day Lake Tahoe brings the fireworks show once again over a holiday weekend.
The South Tahoe Wooden Boat Classic features dozens of classic wooden boats on display at one of the largest gatherings of vessels in Northern California July 24-25 www.tahoewoodenboats.com. This year's theme, "50s & Fins" will recognize those boats built between 1950 and 1959 including the Chris Craft Cobra, Silver Arrow, and Arena Craft Barracuda.

Elite Women’s cycling teams will be stopping by Tahoe South May 8-9, for the 2015 Amgen Tour of California. For the first time 14 of the top women’s cycling teams from around the world will vie for the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race title, a three-stage cycling competition with the first two in Lake Tahoe. The start and finish line for both stages will be at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Main Lodge. The debut is part of the 10th anniversary edition Amgen Tour of California, and the first three-day women’s stage race of its kind in South Lake Tahoe. www.amgentourofcalifornia.com.
Long distance milers can “Run, Rock and Recover” June 20 with the inaugural Rock Tahoe Half Marathon. Presented by Epic Tahoe Adventures and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe, the Rock Tahoe Half Marathon begins at Spooner Summit and drops more than 1,000 feet as it winds its way down Highway 50 along the stunning East Shore of Lake Tahoe to a finish line directly in front of the recently opened Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. www.epictahoe.com
America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride puts pedal to the pavement during the 24th annual ride to fight leukemia and lymphoma www.bikethewest.com. The ride offers spectacular scenery, food/water, restroom, and first aid stations for avid recreational bicyclists as they circumnavigate 72 miles around Lake Tahoe on June 7. Cycling action continues on the same route with the 13th Annual Tour de Tahoe – Bike Big Blue, a Ride to Cure Diabetes, as participants test their strength and physical endurance, Sept. 13.
Tahoe South has become home to the nation’s premier high-elevation lake adventure sport -- Stand Up Paddle boarding. The world’s best SUPers will be at El Dorado Beach on June 27-28, for Race the Lake of the Sky racethelakeofthesky.com. Races feature short course, long distance, team relay, grom (young racers) and SUP cross sprint course. The event includes vendors, food booths and music throughout the weekend.
Hundreds of the West’s best sculpted bodies vie for cash prizes at the Tahoe Show, the 5th annual competition. The judged event is a qualifier for the National Bodybuilding Championship and features categories in bodybuilding, figure and physique, and fitness and bikini. Celebrating its 20th year, the Lake Tahoe Marathon, Oct. 9-11 includes multiple marathons with choices of 5K or 10k, half marathon, 18-milers, 144 milers around the lake or a four-day, 288 mile run. The Valhalla Art, Music & Theatre Festival celebrates summer in old Tahoe fashion with a season long series of performances and comedy at the Boathouse Theater, outdoor concerts, festivals, and cultural events valhallatahoe.com. The Grand Lawn is the site of the annual Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Arts Festival a cultural gathering that features traditional American Indian dancers and drummers, basket weaving displays, art and food.
The third annual Boil 'n Fry Day Festival, early-June is Lake Tahoe's version of an old fashioned New Orleans crawdad feed, complete with live music at the MontBleu Outdoor Event Center. There’s also carnival games, hot wings, barbecue, cold crafted beer and all the fried, boiled or barbecued fresh water crustaceans festival goers can eat.
