Sept. 15, 2016 (STATELINE, Nev.) – Applications from local nonprofits are now being accepted through Oct. 24 by the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority for distributions of $51,984 as a result of the 27th American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament (www.americancenturychampionship.com).
For funding consideration groups must meet 501(c)3 certified nonprofit guidelines, provide an outline of their mission, describe how the donation will be used and indicate impact in the community, and be located in South Lake Tahoe, Calif., or in the Tahoe Township portion of Douglas County. The application is available at www.ltva.org under Community News and must be received by noon on Monday, Oct. 24.
The LTVA in partnership with NBC Sports and American Century Investments previously directed an additional $62,000 through on-site volunteer organizations and other efforts during tournament week to area high schools, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe, South Lake Tahoe Booster Club, Tahoe Fund, and the Gene Upshaw Scholarship. In total, tournament partners will provide $113,984 to local nonprofits, agencies and schools as a result from the July tournament.
Recipients will be presented with checks at the LTVA Board of Directors meeting, Thursday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m.
Since 2009, donations exceeding $800,000 have been distributed to more than 80 local non-profits to assist 10,500+ individuals. In all, 22 Lake Tahoe area nonprofits received donations from ACC last year.
Since its inception in 1990, the tournament has donated more than $4.5 million to local and national non-profits. The nation’s longest running celebrity golf tournament captured the media spotlight with crowd favorites Justin Timberlake and Stephen Curry in the field of famed sports stars, legends and celebrity competitors. Returning stars included Charles Barkley, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Larry the Cable Guy, and Hall of Famers and All-Stars representing major sports.
