Amgen Tour of California Returns to South Lake Tahoe For Men’s Stage 2 Finish, May 13, 2019

AEG, owner, and presenter of The Amgen Tour of California, today announced the route for the 14th edition of the competition. The world’s best male cyclists will contest 750+ miles of roadways, highways, and coastlines from Sacramento to Pasadena, for seven stages, May 12-18, 2019. This year’s course will highlight the distinct beauty of Northern, Central and Southern California. The 2019 host cities feature the return of fan and race team town favorites like South Lake Tahoe, long-time veterans like Sacramento and Pasadena, and the first-time start in Rancho Cordova.
The annual Amgen Tour of California events carries the distinction of being the only U.S. races on the UCI WorldTour calendar and have helped launch some of today’s star cyclists while continuing to attract the best competitors and teams in the world. With seven new courses between them, the event’s legacy as an international platform for both men’s and women’s racing will hold a special significance this year as Olympic hopefuls gear up for Tokyo 2020.

The Amgen Tour of California is designed to cover a variety of terrain, allowing diverse specialists in the peloton to shine throughout the week. Several fast and flat sections are on tap in Sacramento, Morgan Hill and Pasadena catering to sprinters – as well as a start overlooking the famous Laguna Seca motor speedway. Climbers will face challenges in South Lake Tahoe, the Diablo Mountain Range outside Stockton with its 4,4,625-foot elevation, and on multiple ascents between Pismo Beach and Ventura. Fans and teams alike will count down to the men’s and women’s Queen Stages from Ontario to Mt. Baldy, featuring a grueling 26-mile fan-favorite climb to the summit finish, a day that will shake up the leaderboard and can make or break the quest for overall victory.

South Lake Tahoe is renowned for several summer biking events, trails and a BMX bike park that opened summer 2015. The annual America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride circumnavigates the lake, early-June. The annual Tour de Tahoe Bike Big Blue Race, mid-Sept., offers another chance to circle Tahoe’s 72-mile shoreline also described as “America’s Most Beautiful Drive.”
