Weddings in South Lake Tahoe
by Lori Cramer
South Lake Tahoe has a rich and romantic history as a wedding destination. The area’s first wedding chapel opened in 1973. We’ve come a long way since then. Now 12,000 to 15,000 weddings are performed in South Lake Tahoe annually. Some ceremonies and receptions are small and intimate while others exceed budgets of $100,000.
South Lake Tahoe offers couples a variety of options. For smaller groups, the overlook at Emerald Bay is perfect for the “wow” factor with scenery found nowhere else. There are also a variety of quaint wedding chapels filled with “old Tahoe charm.” For those who are seeking a natural setting, there are several beach locations featuring services and restaurants on the water with beautiful sunset views. For the more adventurous couple, hire a boat charter or helicopter!
South Lake Tahoe is home to array of incredible talent, including photographers who shoot weddings around the world, florists who have their own Orchid farm in Hawaii and ship directly to their shop, floral designers who work for the academy awards and presidential inauguration parties, incredible pastry chefs, catering companies, musicians, non-denominational ministers, and wedding planners.
The best part about hosting your wedding in South Lake Tahoe is the abundance of activities for your guests to experience! From hiking to biking, climbing, fishing, boat rentals, hanging out at the beach, renting kayaks, dancing and of course, gaming. Don’t be surprised if your guests make a vacation out of the deal!
