What’s new at Kirkwood Mountain Resort?
Kirkwood Mountain Resort rang in the new year with a NYE party including their annual torchlight parade, fireworks and after parties. But the celebration of their 40th anniversary continues all season long. This local favorite has new upgrades this season, making the short drive from South Lake Tahoe totally worth it.
Becoming part of the Vail Resorts family has its perks, like the EpicMix app. This is some pretty sweet technology that uses radio frequency scanners to track how much of Kirkwood’s 2,300 acres of terrain you’ve covered and earn points. If you’re an over-sharer like me, you can instantly upload your EpicMix stats to Facebook or Twitter.
Comfort bars have been put on every lift on the mountain. I love this, especially for kids or first-timers. Kirkwood, Northstar and Heavenly are the only resorts in California with this added safety feature.
Other upgrades include:
- Updated rental fleet and helmets: This season, all children under 12 in Ski & Board School will be required to wear helmets.
- Food & Beverage: Kirkwood is revamping their food & beverage choices with new menu items and apres ski options.
- Improved snow removal: The resort added new snow removal equipment to help keep roads and parking lots cleaner and get you on the mountain faster.
Also, Kirkwood is hosting the only U.S. stop on The Swatch Freeride World Tour by The North Face, February 27 to March 3. It’ll be awesome to watch the world’s top skiers and snowboarders take on the extreme terrain of The Cirque.
