Pack Your Bags to Tahoe South

Recently I entered and won a drawing for a trip to Lake Tahoe for two people through Allegiant and Tahoe South. We started off with a greeting from representatives from both companies at Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport and getting our photos taken. Next, we received our boarding passes and checked in our bags fast and easy.

On this inaugural flight from Las Vegas to Reno, the representative from Tahoe South accompanied us through the flight and took more photos of us and the other winners when we arrived. She also made sure that we had our travel to and from Lake Tahoe and Reno taken care of. We took a shuttle from the airport to the casino across the street from our hotel.

Bags at Basecamp Hotel in Tahoe South

We stayed at the Basecamp Hotel, which was a rustic camping-themed hotel, with some of the nicest people working there. Everybody was extremely kind and helpful with a very upbeat attitude. My friend and I got our bags and took them to our room, unpacked and went back to the lobby for happy hour, where we were served by a very nice server who was also working the front desk. We started talking with some other guests visiting from Chicago, and wound up going to dinner with them and made plans to go skiing with them the next day.

We woke up the next morning and went to the lobby for the continental breakfast that included fresh coffee, orange juice, bagels with cream cheese, and Danishes. We picked up our rental skis and snowboard from Powder House in the Heavenly Village (a 10-minute walk from our hotel). Then we met our new friends from Chicago, picked up our Heavenly lift tickets, and proceeded to go to the California side of the mountain to ease into our day.

Skiing in Tahoe South at Heavenly

We spent the first half of the day skiing mostly green and blue runs to get our legs underneath us and dust off all of the cobwebs, after a few years off skis. After a good lunch at Tamarack Lodge, we headed back up the mountain for some more intense skiing. We spent the rest of the day enjoying a few blue runs, but mostly black and a few double black runs. The day was perfect - temperatures stayed in the mid-40s the entire day, and it was slightly overcast, which kept the snow nice and light with no melting and very little ice. We finished the day by traversing the entire resort to finish on the Nevada side. We took the gondola down the mountain to the village and returned our rentals before heading back to the hotel, and doing the happy hour once again.

The hotel bartender recommended Basecamp Pizza in the Heavenly Village for dinner, and along with our new friends from Chicago, we enjoyed their specialty and Mediterranean pizzas - both were phenomenal! After dinner, we headed across the street to McP’s Irish Pub for another drink and some great conversation before heading back to the hotel. Once there, we put on our swimsuits and got in the outdoor hot tub that had a beautiful view of the mountain.

The next morning, we grabbed breakfast in the hotel lobby, and then we explored the town before heading back to the airport and back to Vegas. Every part of the trip was amazing, and I owe it all to Tahoe South and Allegiant; all of their accommodations and recommendations were spot on and perfect.

Thank you Tahoe South and Allegiant!
