Home is where you hang your… hammock?

What started as a senior project for two recent Humboldt State University graduates is quickly growing into a true home-grown relaxation operation: Bakpocket Products.

Bryan Burnam, Jacob Hanneman and David Williams run Bakpocket, a South Lake Tahoe company launched 18 months ago that offers a collection of hammocks and backpacks, as well as handbags, slings, duffels, beach blankets and rain flies. All of the products are made with lightweight and highly compressible, yet strong, parachute material.

Available in 20 locations throughout California, and locally available in South Lake Tahoe at Grass Roots Natural Foods, Lake of the Sky Outfitters, and Sports LTD, Bakpocket has developed a strong local following in its first 18 months in business. They are looking to grow, however, and a Kickstarter campaign started this weekend aims to raise funds to help the trio launch new products, start offering online sales and get the company into major trade shows in a push to expand into larger stores and markets.

We’ve just launched a photo contest featuring a Bakpocket Products hammock as the grand prize. Submit a photo of your favorite spot around Lake Tahoe for a chance to win via Facebook or Instagram.
