It’s the Most Wonderful Time in Tahoe South
From the first snowfall through the start of the New Year, Lake Tahoe is truly a special place to be. You might argue that this is true at any time, whether you find yourself ankle deep in sand or snow, but the spirit of Tahoe really comes alive as we end the year with a bang. With each fresh blanket of powder comes a new opportunity for chasing freshies, but there’s even more to look forward to as a whole slew of festive winter activities engulfs the town.
Local businesses are doing much more than just decking their shops with bright lights. If you’re gearing up for a snow day, fueling up for a long day out, or just looking to peruse the shops and entertainment, Tahoe South businesses have you covered with the special family deals and discounts. Many businesses are coming together to provide some fun and nostalgia for all of our friends in Tahoe this Heavenly Holidays season. Go local!
For many residents and visitors alike, this season is the reason that they’ve made Tahoe their home. Keep reading for an overview of some events that remind us why this place’s winter season is so special.
You’ve got three chances to make it to the Village Rail Jam. Starting as early as this Saturday, pro riders, amateurs, and even the kids are welcome to flex their skills free of charge for the chance to win big. Join us in the Heavenly Village on this one for a local competition under the Gondola December 22nd, and the 29th. Show up to show off or just enjoy viewing as a spectator, ski season is here and we couldn’t be more stoked to kick it off with some good competitive fun.
The First Annual Tahoe Santa Crawl is Saturday, December 22nd, and I have a feeling this will be a favorite new Tahoe South Tradition. Grab your crew and your best Santa ensemble and head to Basecamp Pizza, food first. Once you’ve purchased a wristband for $10, the shops and restaurants at Heavenly Village will treat you like long-time friends, hooking you up with special deals for a fun night out. Best of all, each ticket to the crawl comes with free entry into Opal Nightclub at MontBleu’s "Nightmare Before Christmas" Party. Proceeds go towards Helena Kletch's Fight Against Leukemia.
The Heavenly Holidays continue with even more post-Christmas fun. As soon as the day after Christmas you’ll have the opportunity to watch world-class performers in the CIRQUEnanagans! Show. Artists from Cirque Du Soleil bring Christmas to the next level with jaw-dropping feats including an LED cyr wheel, partner balancing, unicycle stunting and many more thrills.
If you’re questioning your riding skills or your will to brave the cold, test your comfort on the Ski Simulator before hitting the slopes. Available at the base of the Gondola from December 26th-31st.
Also from December 26th-31st, there will be daily entertainment for the youngsters in the form of ferris wheels and train rides at the Heavenly Holidays Carnival.
SnowGlobe returns as the coolest party of the year for many more reasons than just dancing in the snow. The three day rave is bumping beats from the 29th-31st at the Lake Tahoe Community College field. Party with them for a one-of-a-kind experience that offers the ultimate fusion - the best of today’s music in the best of the mountains. This is a must for even the most dedicated festival goers, check out this year’s lineup to find out why.
As far as New Year’s Eve celebrations go, it’s up to you on how far you want to take it. If SnowGlobe isn’t quite your style but you still want to throw on some dancing shoes and celebrate, the clubs and bars in and around the casinos will help you ring in the New Year with your glass full.
Head to Vinyl inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe for their Party like a Rockstar Dance Party featuring Steel Breeze. Watch the NYE Countdown, toast some bubbles, plus live music all night long.
The celebration promises to be wild at Peek Nightclub’s First Annual Black Diamond Ball. Not only will the DJ be spinning your favorite dance music into 2019, but they’ll have aerialists spinning and whirling in a performance over your head while you party.
For the complete package of panache and party, New Year’s Eve at Edgewood Tahoe is where you want to be. The public has been cordially invited to welcome 2019 in impeccable style at Edgewood Tahoe’s first annual NYE Black & White Ball. Think back to the days of lively jazz bars, pair that with old Hollywood red carpet flair and swanky lounges stocked with only the finest of cognac and cigars. Usher in 2019 with a champagne toast as fireworks pop off into the sky, all right at their private beach’s edge with that stunning snowy Sierra mountain backdrop. This doesn’t even begin to cover the culinary excellence that awaits.
On top of the numerous events, ski resorts have opened for the season along with many other winter activities to enjoy. There’s ice skating right in the middle of the Heavenly Village, or at the community rink in South Lake for even more space. You also might be lucky if Sawmill Pond is frozen, you could spend a day ice skating and sledding just at that one spot.
Sledding has started. The numerous local sno-parks have accumulated enough snow, and though it’s not huge, right next to MontBleu is Tahoe’s snowmobile and tubing hill for a little bit of both. If you want to go all out and explore the scenic Tahoe forests racing around on a snowmobile, Zephyr Cove Resort started taking trips out as early as last weekend.
