Rude Brothers Bagels, a Tahoe South favorite
I’m a big fan of local, family-owned hotspots. I also love my morning cup of coffee and breakfast dates. My husband proposed over breakfast but that’s another story.
Last weekend, we stopped by Rude Brothers Bagels for our breakfast date. It’s always nice to be greeted with a smile and a bit of small talk. Thanks Gregg for the friendly service.
I decided to be adventurous and try something new. Gregg said the Rude Awakening is a popular menu item so I decided to give it a go. It comes with ham, bacon, sausage or turkey bacon, cheddar cheese and egg on your choice of bagel. I ordered mine with turkey bacon, cheddar cheese and egg on a toasted honey wheat bagel and of course, a 20 oz. coffee. I went with the Costa Rican (organic) blend this time. Nom nom nom is all I have to say about that. I drink my coffee black so I’m not a fan of bold coffee flavors. It was the perfect balance (medium blend).
Rude Brothers (3117 Harrison Ave., South Lake Tahoe, CA) is open daily from 6 am to 4 pm and offers an awesome selection of what I call gourmet bagels (baked fresh daily), pastries, sandwiches, smoothies and the finest coffee blends (menu). Hint. Hint. They specialize in bagels and coffees so you may want to start there.
I’m a social butterfly but I secretly prefer to dine alone. Rude Brothers is the kind of place you feel comfortable reading the paper (or your tech gadget) while enjoying a hot cup of coffee. It’s also the perfect place for a meetup or grab-and-go meal. My two favorite things about the cozy atmosphere are the chalkboard menus and the framed artwork on the walls by local artists.
Rude Brothers is a must experience for tourists and a jumpstart-your-day tradition for locals. Even though I consider myself a bit of a foodie, when it comes to bagels, I usually order a honey wheat or asiago bagel with cream cheese and sliced tomato. I think I’m going to continue this trying something new streak and go for the Muenster Melt or Veggie Burrito next.
If you have a favorite menu item, tell me in the comments below and I’ll add it to my must-try list.
