May is National Bike Month
May is National Bike Month, sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists and celebrated in communities from coast to coast. Established in 1956, National Bike Month is a chance to showcase the many benefits of bicycling — and encourage more folks to giving biking a try.
There are special events planned all over the country, and locally, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval has issued a proclamation declaring May 9 - 15, 2015, as Nevada Bike Week!
- The 2015 AMGEN Tour of California Women's Race Empowered with SRAM: To observe the 10th anniversary edition of the AMGEN Tour of California, organizers of the race announced that the first two stages of the expanded women’s portion of the race would be hosted by Tahoe South, “America’s Best Lake,” (USA Today, Aug. 2012) May 8 – 9, 2015. The competition will continue in Sacramento, May 10, 2015, with a third racing stage , the same day as the overall men’s start of the Amgen Tour of California.
- Ride 2 Recovery: Honor Ride Lake Tahoe: The honor ride will leave just after the start of Stage 1 of the Amgen Tour of California Women’s Race and travels out and back for 19 miles along the challenging and scenic course. This self-paced, non-competitive ride is designed to raise awareness and funding for Ride 2 Recovery, a unique mental and physical rehabilitation and recovery program for veterans.
- Tahoe Talks Brown Bag Lunch Series: The Bike’s Impact on Tahoe’s Economy: Biking and walking positively contribute to Lake Tahoe’s economy, but by how much? This talk will be a panel discussion on what we currently know about how biking and walking impact Tahoe’s economy, and how we can find out more.
