Fun competitions keep heating up Tahoe South

Can you feel the burn? Ah, the sweet thrills of a good adrenaline rush.

We invite athletes of all ages and abilities to push their limits and set the bar high. Stand up paddle boarding, cycling, triathlons, marathons and rock climbing – are you up for the challenge?

Tour the Big Blue
More than 1,800 bicycling enthusiasts will participate in the 10th annual Tour de Tahoe Bike Big Blue to Cure Diabetes, Sunday, Sept. 9. Circumnavigating the lake, the Tour Blue is a fun ride, not a race, with spectacular scenery, fresh mountain air, and rest stops with food and beverages. All riders are invited to cool off at Tahoe South’s Horizon Casino Resort’s after ride pool party.

Kids can do Tri, too
While there's plenty of athletic competition for grownups, here’s one for the little ones. Tahoe Tri Club will present its final race of the season, Sept. 9 at Lake Baron in Tahoe Paradise. Kids can sign up to swim multiple distances in shallow warm water, ride their bikes and run on flat surfaces. Open to ages 4-14 with prizes awarded for each age group.

Rock it steady at boulder festival
Roped, harnessed and ready, the South Lake Tahoe & Meyers Climbing Festival & Bouldering Competition is Sept. 15 in Meyers, bordering South Lake Tahoe. The all-day event features food, live music, demonstrations and contests for cash and prizes. The event is open to rock climbers of all ages, with bouldering competitions beginning at 9 am.

Across Lake Tahoe SUP Race SUP’ers go big
Tahoe's newest sport has quickly become a classic. Stand up paddle boarders will take it 22 miles – all the way across the lake, Sept. 16, at the Tahoe Fall Classic Stand Up Paddle Board Race Across Lake Tahoe. Billed as the "Big Daddy" of the season at Lake Tahoe, the competition pushes off from Camp Richardson at 8 am and ends at Kings Beach.

Ladies, start your triathlon
The best regional woman athletes will compete in the Athleta Iron Girl Triathlon on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 7:30 am. Featuring a 400-meter swim from Lakeside Beach, a 24-kilometer bike loop out to Zephyr Cove, and a 5-kilometer run around the Stateline corridor, this triathlon is set against a breathtaking backdrop and is the perfect platform for first timers and experienced athletes to reach their personal bests.

Lace it up
A summer sports wrap wouldn't be complete without the Lake Tahoe Marathon. Participants will run, walk, swim, paddle or pedal one or more of the 30-plus events during the Lake Tahoe Marathon weekend, Sept. 28-30. The main event, the Lake Tahoe Marathon starts Sunday on Commons Beach in Tahoe City and finishes on Pope Beach near South Lake Tahoe.

Tahoe South knows how to bring it! Sign up now for any of the fun, challenging events and we will see you at the starting line.
