Weekend plans: What to do in South Lake Tahoe

Planning on visiting South Lake Tahoe for the weekend? We have a few ideas for activities and events for you:

Friday, December 11 | Tahoe Adventure Film Festival

The Tahoe Adventure Film Festival celebrates the adventure sports community with newly released films of daring exploits and epic adventures in some of the most remote places and harsh conditions that test the human spirit. Filmmakers capture the power and intensity of skiing, snowboarding, kayaking, rock climbing, surfing, mountain biking, BASE jumping and other heart pounding sports that feed our addiction to adventure.

This is the annual "gathering of the Tribe" on Tahoe's South Shore. You will most certainly see your neighbors, co-workers, that guy from the coffee shop, the gal from the bike shop, and the kid who took the big candy bar at Halloween. There will be music, dancing, and a gigantic raffle to support Sierra Avalanche Center - which should get at least as much money from your household budget as your CalStar membership. Saturday, December 12 | Cruise with Santa aboard the M.S. Dixie II

Who doesn’t love a parade?! This is the 4th annual holiday parade, and it begins at 3PM at Ski Run Blvd and Pioneer Trail, heads down Ski Run Blvd to Hwy 50, and then makes it’s way to the “Y” and TJ Maxx. Santa will be on hand with cookies and cocoa, and donations are encouraged for Christmas Cheer, a local non-profit organization. [More information]

Saturday, December 12 | Jim Belushi and the Board of Comedy

Less of a “show” and more of a party, this improvised sketch show is sure to be a laugh-out-loud blend of standup comedy and audience participation with some of the funniest performers in show business today.  [More information]

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, and Kirkwood Mountain Resort are all open for early season skiing and riding. With the earliest opening for Sierra-at-Tahoe in years and the most snow we’ve seen in town in recent memory, I wholeheartedly recommend getting outside and on a mountain this weekend!
