Steampunk Ball kicks off fall fun at Valhalla

Calling all steampunks: On Friday Oct. 9, the first ever Tall Timber Ball will be held at Valhalla’s Grand Hall, and we want you!

But first, how does one know if one is steampunk?

Although it sounds vaguely musical, Steampunk grew out of the book world, not the music world. Can you picture a Jules Verne novel like “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea,” a science fiction book far ahead of its Victorian time, in which a submarine exists? The characters are firmly rooted in their own time period, yet also have technology far beyond the norm for the era. With steampunk, you can dress like an Edwardian or Victorian gentleperson, but tuck a ray gun in your vest pocket. It’s sophisticated subversion.

At our party in the pines, you’ll be surrounded by revelers in velvet and lace and goggles and pith helmets and tuxedoes and gears and feathers. Our steampunk decor revolves around steam-driven machinery with an updated twist. You can relax in any of our theme corners, meant to evoke an earlier age. You can visit our gratis photo booth to capture your moment of steampunk glory, and bid on some truly unusual items in our silent auction. A unique prize will go to the most interesting look for the night, so bring it!

Electro-swing DJ Damien from the Bay Area will provide the tunes, and he has some cool tricks up Edwardian sleeve. Sample his beat here, and just try to keep in your seat!

Tickets include food, drink, dance, the auction, photo booth and more. Ready to join us on the dance floor? Get your tickets online here.
