Historic Vikingsholm Castle Tour

Historic Vikingsholm Castle Tour

Vikingsholm is noted for its outstanding architecture and scenic location. It represents an era of gracious living. Days at Vikingsholm were not filled with one thrilling event following another. Instead, each day blended into the next in the relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. Mrs. Lora Josephine Knight constructed Vikingsholm in the Scandinavian style because Emerald Bay reminded her of the fjords she visited on trips to that region.   Mrs. Knight enjoyed entertaining and had a number of guests visiting during the summer months.  Contrary to many stories, Mrs. Knight rarely used the Teahouse on Fanette Island, which she also owned.

Now a National and California landmark, Vikingsholm is available for public tours during the summer months. The 30-minute tours are conducted by the experienced and knowledgeable guides of the Sierra State Parks Foundation.  All proceeds go towards the restoration and education efforts for Vikingsholm.
