What we are doing: Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on restoration event. You will help improve the ecosystem function and the wildlife habitats surrounding Lake Tahoe by pitching in. Healthy forests and meadows act as natural pollution filters to Keep Tahoe Blue.

Below are the project descriptions. Volunteers do not need previous experience to participate in the projects.

  • Easy level project: Litter pickup
    • Project: Litter that has been left behind by visitors to the shoreline. Help us keep litter out of Lake Tahoe and ensure litter doesn’t turn into microplastics!
    • Tools: Grabbers, gloves, bags, data cards, pencil.
  • Hard level project: Decommission trails and repair shoreline access points
    • Project: Volunteers will cover social trails that were formed last year with forest debris with rakes and shovels to ensure visitors to the area use proper paths. Volunteers will also stabilize stairs with sand and dirt that lead to the beach for safety and prevent further erosion.
    • Tools: Rakes, shovels, maddox, buckets, watering cans and tamper.

What to bring: sturdy boots, long pants, long sleeves, sunglasses, work gloves (if you have them), a full reusable water bottle, and following current CDC Covid guidelines.

We provide safety materials, sanitation materials, clean gloves, training, sanitized equipment, wrapped snacks, and giveaways.

Partners: United States Forest Service – Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit.

Further details:

  • Final details will be sent a few days prior to the event date to registered volunteers.
  • Volunteers under 18 will need to have a guardian sign the waiver and the volunteer must bring the signed waiver to the event. The guardian may also attend the event and can sign off for the minor at the event.
