Watch the Amgen Tour of California as they race through Lake Tahoe

The Amgen Tour of California returns to Lake Tahoe for two exciting stages of professional road cycling on Friday, May 18.

The field of 17 men’s teams and 15 women’s teams will feature the top cycling teams in the world, including Olympic medalists, Tour de France contenders, and World Champions. Whether you are a visitor or a local, this is the perfect opportunity to experience world-class racing up close!

Lifestyle Festival – Heavenly Resort’s California Base Lodge

Beginning at 10:00 am, the Lifestyle Festival will feature activities, vendors, and the best chance to see the riders up close at the Start/Finish line. Arrive early to enjoy the opening ceremony, and watch the women sign in for their start. The women’s race is expected to finish around 2:20 pm and the men will be arriving around 3:20 pm. The award ceremony will begin once the last male rider crosses the finish line.

Festival attendees are encouraged to carpool, bike and/or utilize the free shuttle, which is a continuous loop available from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm on Ski Run Blvd. Please flag the shuttle driver. Drop off is at Heavenly Mountain Resort’s California Base Lodge.

Amgen Tour of California at Lake Tahoe

Start: 11 am
Finish: Approximately 2:18 pm
Course: a 69-mile loop that climbs out of the Tahoe Basin over Luther Pass, descends into the Carson Valley and climbs back
into the basin over Kingsbury Grade.

Businesses and groups along the Route are encouraged to host viewing parties and cheer the racers as they pass by.

There are many places along the route to watch the cyclists, and popular sections will fill up with spectators quickly. It is recommended that you select your viewing location in advance, and arrive at least an hour early to avoid traffic delays. Be sure to park entirely off the road so as not to block traffic or the riders. Here are some suggested viewing spots, and the time the women are expected to pass by:

Along the Course – Stage 6 of the Amgen Tour of California Men’s Race

Start: Folsom
Finish: Heavenly Mountain Resort California Base Lodge
Start: 10 am
Finish: Approximately 3:21 pm

Course: 122 miles that climbs out of Folsom over Emigrant Pass and Carson Pass then descends into Hope Valley and the Carson Valley then climbs into the Tahoe basin over Kingsbury Grade.

  • Kingsbury Grade and Foothill Rd 1:35 pm & 2:45 pm
  • Kingsbury Grade and Tramway    2:01 pm & 3:05 pm
  • Kingsbury Grade and Hwy 50      2:10 pm & 3:14 pm
  • Hwy 50 and Pioneer Trail        2:13 pm & 3:17 pm
  • Pioneer Trail and Ski Run Blvd  2:16 pm & 3:19 pm

Kingsbury Grade will close approximately 1:00 - 3:30 pm

Please note: The safety of the riders and spectators is of top priority.  Residents and visitors are advised to allow extra time or plan alternate routes on Friday. Between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm, expect rolling road closures of approximately 20-30 minutes at intersections. Amgen, 2015 at Ski Run
