Three places to dine in South Lake Tahoe during California Restaurant Month

By: Lake Tahoe Staff

Tahoe is known for its year-round outdoor adventure heaven. But foodies can too rejoice in the South Lake Tahoe’s food scene. From sophisticated dining hot spots to creative food trucks, South Lake Tahoe has it all. Here are three places to try out if you are in South Lake Tahoe or planning a trip to the big blue.

1. Riva Grill

Named after a boat from Italy, Riva Grill is one of the premier lakefront locations in South Lake Tahoe. Today, only 20 or so of these boats are built to order at a price of $200,000. But we digress…

The restaurant is located in the Marina off of Ski Boulevard. Riva Grill boasts a big indoor and outdoor patio with views from the blue lake and snowcapped mountains. We recommend that you make a reservation during the busy season, especially if you want to enjoy the lake.

For appetizers, we recommend the ahi poke stack, featured below or the Dungeness crab cakes. You can’t go wrong with the fresh fish they serve for the main meal for dinner.

2. Jimmy’s Restaurant at the Landing Tahoe

Located across the beach from the lake, Jimmy’s Restaurant is part of the Landing Tahoe. It’s open daily for breakfast (7am – 1130am), lunch (12pm – 3pm), happy hour (3pm – 5pm) and dinner (5pm – 930pm). The bar itself is an art piece with an Onyx back wall and adjoining glass wine cellar. You can find over 300 wines from around the world there. Jimmy’s is a perfect place to enjoy a quick bite or a special dinner with friends and family. Greek specialties are incorporated throughout the menu along with established favorites. Sunsets are spectacular sitting on the terrace around a fire pit with a fabulous drink from our bar. Reservations are recommended. Tel. 530.600.3509 www.thelandingtahoe.com

Check out their new food and wine event, called Tasting Tuesday. Every Tuesday in the months of January and February, 4pm-6pm. The chef creates a new 3-course menu every week. Taste, sip and critique the menu. Reservations are necessary for the event.

Insider tip: We highly recommend getting the rack of lamb for dinner, served with orzo, spinach, tomato, cucumber mint relish, and tzatziki. But if that’s not for you, there’s plenty to choose from.

If you just want a snack, get the grilled octopus or the zucchini keftedes. Happy hour is from 3pm – 5 pm. And don’t forget to get a craft cocktail from the bar. Take a look at some of our favorites. Check out Jimmy’s Restaurant entire dinner menu or drinks menu.

3. Off the Hook Sushi

Located in the middle of South Lake Tahoe, Off the Hook caters to locals and visitors. When I first moved to South Lake Tahoe from North Lake Tahoe, it was the only place I visited for about 2 months. Insider Tip: Try to go there during Happy Hour if you want to save on your bill with $5 sushi rolls.

The sushi is good, the rolls are creative and they even cater to vegans. I love their sashimi presentation and the quality of the fish.
