Holiday shopping in Tahoe South
The holidays are fast approaching, and as usual, I am a little behind on my gift list. And when I say a little, I mean a lot. Lucky for me, local retailers and online artisans have really stepped up their game, and I can find something unique and made in Tahoe for everyone on my list. Here are few of my favorite (places to buy) things:
Gaia-Licious Global Gifts
987 Tallac Ave, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
Gaia-Licious is a true local treasure trove. Stocked to the brim with unique, handcrafted, and locally-made products, this is a must-stop on any shopper’s visit to South Lake Tahoe.
Pacific Crest Gallery
1001 Heavenly Way, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
Located in Heavenly Village, Pacific Crest Gallery offers a spectacular selection of fine art, sculpture, art glass, jewelry, and gifts. From the sublime to the totally “Tahoe,” there is truly something for all tastes to be found here.
Tahoe Moonshine offers rum, vodka, whiskey and gin distilled locally with water sourced from Lake Tahoe. If you want to pick up a bottle, stop in at Lira's or at Dart Beverage Center. If you want to sample first, you can ask for it by name while drinking at the Beacon, MacDuff’s, and McP’s. Sampling is recommended.
4114 Lake Tahoe Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
This interactive information center has a nice selection of books, maps, cards, and toys. I love stopping in for small items like bookmarks and ornaments.
Zawadisha Holiday Bazaar
Dec 5th, 10am - 3pm
Blue Angel Cafe | 1132 Ski Run Blvd, South Lake Tahoe, California 96150
The annual Zawadisha Holiday Bazaar offers an opportunity to shop locally while having a global impact. Items for sale will include housewares, linens and bags from Kenya, wellness and beauty products, jewelry, locally published books, knitted and crocheted hairpieces, toys and more. Zawadisha Fund, a Tahoe-based nonprofit, arms women with access to capital and the life-saving tools they need to lift themselves out of poverty.
Valhalla Holiday Faire
Nov 20 5:30pm -8:30pm, Nov 21 10am - 5pm, Nov 22 10am - 4pm
Valhalla Grand Hall | Hwy 89 (Emerald Bay Road) past Camp Richardson, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150
The Valhalla Grand Hall will be decorated in a festive Holiday mode. Twenty-plus local vendors and artists will be offering a varied assortment of hand-made and other special items for purchase. Santa Claus comes to visit as local school choirs and other musical groups perform Saturday and Sunday.
And if you're not planning to visit South Lake Tahoe until after the holidays, we've started "Pinning" items we find online with that special "Tahoe" feel. Check out our Holiday Shopping Pinterest Board for more gift ideas.
