Top 5 Cinco de Mayo margaritas in South Lake Tahoe
Whether you like it frozen, on the rocks with salt or without, there's nothing quite like a tangy Margarita to go with a zesty Mexican dinner. With Cinco de Mayo around the corner, here are my favorite spots to get that tequila-based "frozen concoction that helps me hang on," as Jimmy Buffet would say.
- The Cantina Bar and Grill
Voted Tahoe's Best Margarita and Mexican Restaurant by Tahoe South locals, this is where you can find authentic Mexican food. Start off with the nachos before dipping into the enchiladas. If you prefer a liquid dinner get the Patron-blend. Location: Highway 89 and 10th street, South Lake Tahoe, CA 530-544-1233
- Café del Soul
This is a great place to celebrate the holiday on a budget. Margaritas and tacos cost only $.99 from 1-6 p.m. on Cinco de Mayo. Plus there’s a $500 Taco Eat-off Challenge. Last year’s winner ate 14 tacos in 10 minutes. If you think you can beat him, bring antacid! Location: Montbleu 55 Hwy 50 Lake Tahoe, NV 89449 (775) 588-3515
- Latin Soul
Inside Lakeside Inn and Casino, Latin Soul has some of the tangiest Margaritas in town. My favorite is the Latin Soul Margarita on the rocks with salt and the carne asada tacos with homemade tortillas. On Cinco de Mayo stop by The Tavern for $3 Tequila specials featuring Milagro Silver, Herradura Blanco and 1800 Reposado. Location: 168 Hwy 50 Stateline, NV 89449 (775) 588-7777
- Margaritas Mexican Cafe
I think there should be a law against going to a restaurant named Margaritas and ordering anything other than a Margarita! I always order two chicken tacos – one soft and one hard. Location: 2494 Lake Tahoe Blvd South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150, (530) 544-6907
- CaboWabo Cantina
CaboWabo Cantina (owned by Sammy Hagar and found inside Harveys Lake Tahoe) was recently remodeled and serves every kind of Margarita imaginable. My favorite is the Rock Star on the rocks, a fruit-punch blend that goes great with chips and salsa or tacos. Location: Highway 50 at Stateline Avenue Stateline, NV 89449, (775) 588-2411
