Guilty Pleasures

By: Georgette Hartley

“We’re baaaaaack!” For an unprecedented sixth time, David Hamilton and Mark D. Williams will present Guilty Pleasures, the fast paced comic musical written specifically for the Tahoe audience, both local and visitor alike.

With Hamilton writing the book and lyrics and Williams writing the music, Guilty first premiered at the Boathouse Theatre in summer 2002. Since then, the show has gone through five revisions, each reflecting some of the changes that Tahoe has experienced. It was last produced in 2009.

The main concept of the play hasn’t changed and centers on a group of individuals who have been given permission to perform a show as part of their community service (received for a hilarious variety of minor offenses) by a progressive Tahoe judge. Likewise there are popular numbers that have stayed with each production, such as “50 on 50,” “The Keep Tahoe Blues,”  “Living on Tahoe Time,” and the “TRPA.”

The cast has also changed over the years, though we have several veterans in this production, including Kurt Munger, Chris Taylor, and Pam Taylor, who have been in all six productions. The cast includes members who have been a part of prior productions, (but not all in the same roles) such as Stephanie Grigsby, Mark (TO) Williams, Anita Jones, and Matt Ault. Making their first appearance in the Guilty cast are Joanie SanAgustin, April Foiles, and Carrie Bauwens.

Guilty Pleasures is at the Boathouse Theatre, August 1-4 at 7:30 pm and August 5 at 2 pm. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door for general, and $15 for seniors over 65 and children under 18. Tickets are available online or at the door.
