Who came up with this idea?
I mean it's epic.
"Let's have a conference where we ski all morning, have presenters all afternoon and into the evening, and then party late into the night."
Vail Resorts CEO Rob Katz called Snowcial "the Sundance festival for the Facebook generation of avid snowsports enthusiasts."
I'll be there.
When you want to bring together social media and technology geeks who also happen to share a passion for skiing and riding, there's really no other place like Tahoe South. Our combination of world-class skiing along with the party waiting for you at the casinos après-ski cannot be matched anywhere else.
I've been going to conferences my entire professional life but I'd never been to another conference like Snowcial when I attended the 4th annual conference a year ago. Business suits are replaced by ski gear and the schedule puts as much emphasis on skiing and partying as it does the line-up of speakers. Greg Wright, associate publisher of Freeskier Magazine credits Snowcial with his magazine's decision to name Heavenly Mountain one of the top five resorts tied for Best Party Towns in North America.
That combination of great skiing and great party life goes on all winter long in Tahoe's south shore. Snowcial is remarkable for the personalities and influencers that it brings together over the four days of the conference. Companies like Google, Facebook, Microsoft, eBay, Comcast, Gowalla, REI, INRIX, Yahhoo!, Nielsen, HP, foursquare, Klout, Nestle, and GoPro have represented in the past and most will return this year.
Many of the speakers, I suspect, aren't used to competing with powder turns, though, when they're worrying about holding their audience. Last year, the director of marketing for Pabst Blue Ribbon handed out tallboys during his presentation. That's one way to win the crowd.
This year's speakers include:
- Tarique Shaukat, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Caesars Entertainment
- Patrick Harrington, Technical Team Lead at Targeting@WalmartLabs
- Dean Eckles, Facebook Data Science Team
- Stanley Hainsworth, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer of Tether, Inc.
- Paul Crandell, Vice President of Marketing at GoPro

As if anything needed to be done to dress up the party scene at Harvey's, Snowcial is also hosting a private poker tournament, VIP receptions, and even a G-Love concert.
