You’re adventurous -- daring, even. So, after you’ve mastered stand-up paddle boarding or hiked Mt. Tallac, don’t be afraid of adding a little culture to your Tahoe South visit, too. Grab a hotel room on the South Shore, drop your bags, and head up Hwy 50 along the beautiful eastern shoreline to Sand Harbor State Park for one of South Lake Tahoe’s most beloved summer traditions. Featuring gorgeous costumes, stunning sets, live music, and professional talent, the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is one of South Lake Tahoe’s most beloved summer traditions.
Locals and visitors alike have been celebrating our special twist on the traditional “Shakespeare in the Park” festival for 40 years. This summer, Charles Fee will return to direct William Shakespeare’s doubly-delightful comedy The Two Gentlemen of Verona with nightly performances (except Mondays) from July 13 to August 26.
One of the original rom-com’s, Two Gents is sure to keep everyone entertained. Bosom buddies Valentine and Proteus are Verona’s closest comrades, but their friendship is put to the test when Proteus abandons his beloved Julia and vies for the affections of Valentine’s new love, the strong-willed Silvia. Chock-full of high comic scenes and rich, romantic language, Two Gents displays Shakespeare’s comic powers at their hilarious height. Add in a live onstage band that infuses the show with an infectious folk/rock soundscape and one of the most talented professional acting companies in the West, and you have a recipe for a perfect Tahoe evening!
Every Monday night during the 40th anniversary season of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, you can enjoy a fantastic lineup of live entertainment. Click here for show listings and details.
Gates open for all seating sections at 5:30 pm and all performances begin at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased online or by calling (775) 832-1616.
