With two months left in 2012, it’s time to start thinking about where to ring in the New Year. If we all make it past the end of the world on Dec. 21, which I’m betting we will, Tahoe South will be the place to be this New Year’s Eve with world-class skiing, non-stop entertainment, nightlife and dining.
I’ve had the pleasure to experience various types of celebrations in Tahoe South over the years and here are my top picks:
The SnowGlobe electronic music festival is on my radar for Dec. 29-31. This year’s lineup includes Wiz Khalifa, Chromeo, Big Gigantic, MiMosa, Madeon, Gramatik, Polica, Flosstradamus, Minnesota, Baauer and Clockwork. I’m looking forward to seeing Beats Antique, Deadmau5 and Laidback Luke. The fireworks last year were incredible; it was the first time I recall Tahoe South having a larger-scale display over the holiday. Watch this video to get you amped: 2011 Recap
Forget the partridge in a pear tree, there’s 13 days of Christmas at Heavenly Village from Dec. 19 to Dec. 31 with music, ice sculpting (wish I had that talent), fire dancers, professional ice skaters, games, dining, shopping and photos inside a giant snow globe perfect for sharing on Instagram. The Gondola Drop is a ‘must see’ event with a decorated and illuminated car descending from the top of the mountain in a “midnight” countdown at 9 pm followed by another spectacular fireworks display over Heavenly Village.
Talk about a bargain! MontBleu will host its popular New Year’s Eve Nightclub Party, which is actually three parties-in-one: Opal Ultra Lounge, blu nightclub and the 14,000 sq. ft. convention center. They are having a Brazilian theme, “2013 Starts with Some Spice,” and of course, they will have live music, free party favors, champagne, go-go dancers and body painting all night/morning long. I can’t wait! It’s going to be a crazy fun time.
