Insider tips to eating like a local in South Lake Tahoe

So, you want to explore beyond the bounds of chain restaurants? You want to dine like a local? You want to know where to go, what to order, and how to get what you want? Here are a few of my favorite tips for eating like a local in South Lake Tahoe.

Zephyr Cove Lodge: This has always been a favorite breakfast spot of mine. On the beach, fun, rustic, and good. Love the skillet breakfasts and the trout. But their dinners have been the hidden surprise - even to me! Phil is the guy to ask for special requests. He recently arranged a gourmet macaroni and cheese fest for a group of us with an hour notice. That's what I call customer service!

Mirabelle: Simply amazing. Tucked away in a strip mall on Lower Kingsbury Grade, this hidden gem makes your mouth water the instant you walk in the door. No view, but who cares? The food is amazing. The menu changes seasonally and there are special menus for different holidays. If you're lucky, you might be able to arrange a cooking class with the Chef Camille Schwartz on Monday nights when the restaurant is closed.
